Due to training with Denise Michaels and Joyce I proposed writing a book to precede the release of a new software program being released in late 2004. We have made arrangements for printing and for the collaboration of a well-known professor to co-write and provide the research documentation to back up the stats in the book as well as have his name lend credibility in the industry as he is well known compared to us.

I took Denise Michaels' Book Proposal Class, wrote my book proposal, attended BEA, gave my proposal to Larry Krishbaum of AOL Time Warner. They reviewed it and recommended a literary agent, Jessica Papin, that Mr. Krishbaum said was young and very bright. After reading the proposal, she said, "You have a comprehensive, innovative approach to beauty and color, and I do think you're on to something groundbreaking here. Unfortunately, I'm not certain that now is the best time for you to try and sell a book. ...You have something of a chicken and egg dilemma here, but you should know that books based on systems and product lines can only succeed if the product line is working. Like Bobbi Brown or Philosophie, both cosmetic lines that have produced accompanying books."

First, thanks so much to both of you, Bob and Mark for the EMI program. You’ll see as you read why I so appreciate this empowering program that you have put together. In brief, I’ve written a book but didn’t know how to connect with the right people to critique it and help me get a great publisher. I took EMI’s protégé class: How To Write A Book Proposal by Denise Michaels (She’s terrific) and wrote my book proposal. Then I attended BEA with the EMI group. At BEA, I also attended Mark Victor Hansen’s seminar on writing a bestseller. There, Laurence Krishbaum of AOL Time Warner spoke. He gave us his e-mail. I went up to him after and told him how much I appreciated his making himself available to us. He said, "No one will ever use it." I replied, "I will." He also told me to bring my proposal by the Time Warner Booth, which I did. Then I followed up. A remarkably genuine and sterling person, he consistently helped me. First, to have my material read by an editor. She "didn’t get" what my research was saying but she recognized something important was there. Second, she and Larry recommended a literary agent that Larry said, "was a fabulous young agent that had worked at Time Warner. I’ve contacted her. She is uniquely qualified to read and understand my material because she has a degree in art as well as literature. We communicate weekly. So far, so good. She said what I have done is "right up her ally." So, I’m waiting for her first comments from the material I sent her. I attended a Boot Camp where I met an investment banker. When I get my business plan formally written, I will send it to him. I spent money to join EMI, attend BEA and boot camp. So, when you offered the 50 people to give personal help to, I didn’t have the extra funds. I can’t tell you how frustrated I was because my material is capable of producing a best selling book, especially with the understanding I have received from EMI on how to market it. We have a complimentary cosmetic line which we need to give a new look to once we get a publisher. As well, the material lends itself to a catalog, stores or consultants, a TV show, licensing, newsletters - even a magazine in time. As it is, I’m working to get a publisher and build our sales to help me finance the rest. We have our product in 1700 locations. Last week, our representative presented it to mass retailers like K-Mart, Walgreen’s, Rite Aide. 18-20 expressed high interest in carrying it. Oct 29, he presents it to Wal-Mart. He feels we can do $4 million minimum in sales in 2004 because of the integrity of the product.

After much enthusiasm and encouragement from Mark and Bob, and Denise and everyone else, I am working on my book proposal. Denise's class is going to help me write a super proposal and after I get back from Marks' Mega Book Marketing University, I will have a book going to publishing!!!! Who would have ever guessed? See how much they change our lives!

We went out seeking a publisher to no avail. Nobody was interested. The old story the teacher appears when the student is ready. I met an editor who was freelancing because his publishing company had gone out of business due to overextending and poor management decisions. We put my book proposal into a publishable book in March 1998. I since self published five books.
